Macquarie University is located about 30 minutes north of Sydney and is one of the leading international universities and ultimate destinations for studying abroad. Founded in 1964, Macquarie's 135 acre campus is home to 35,000 students, including 8,900 international students from all over the world. When you study abroad, you can join any one of the 40 clubs and organizations on campus and can really get a taste of what Macquarie is all about. With Sydney at your doorstep, you also benefit from being in a large city that offers a multitude of activities, museums, and social events.

Macquarie University's Parkland Campus is located just 30 minutes drive or 45 minutes by bus outside of Sydney in the suburb of North Ryde.  The campus is also connected to the city by underground rail; the University has a dedicated train station.  The campus features eateries and recreational facilities, extensive library and computer facilities, a state-of-the-art Sport and Aquatic Centre, a sculpture park, several museums, and a golf driving range.  Additionally, the city becomes your campus with museums, parks, galleries, and more to enjoy.

Macquarie prides itself on receiving numerous awards from various fields that recognize the quality of faculty and the prestigious areas of study at the University. Macquarie is home to the national dictionary of Australia, the Macquarie Dictionary. In the field of astronomy, Macquarie holds one of four worldwide NASA centers and studies for Astrobiology on campus. In past years, the University has also been ranked number one in Australia and Asia for the best full-time MBA program. Additionally, faculty and staff come from all over the world, having ranked among the highest in their fields, and with diverse backgrounds.

The Macquarie International office provides support and resources for CSU students when they arrive at in Sydney. Once you are accepted, hop on the plane and get to Macquarie, you will have an orientation led by the Macquarie Abroad staff to make it easier for you to settle in to your new home. This orientation takes place the week prior to classes and covers all sorts of topics that will make you more at ease and will give you the ambition to start discovering your campus. For the four day orientation, you will learn about culture shock, health insurance, email, study skills, trips, social events, fun and games, and even more.

The following is a list of the programs of study offered by Macquarie University:*
Accounting, Australian and Aboriginal studies, Anthropology, Business, Chemistry, Christian Studies, Communications, Computing, Early Childhood Studies, Economics, Education, Environmental and Life Sciences, European and Asian Languages, Law, Liberal Arts and Humanities, Linguistics, Marketing, Media and Communication, Politics and International Relations, Psychology, and Social Sciences.

 *Please note that certain majors may have different titles at Macquarie and/or CSU students may take classes for credit to their major even though their major may not be listed.

Credit Transfer: Once you are admitted to the CSU study abroad program in Macquarie, you will be asked to fill out a course description form that will determine what classes offered at Macquarie match with those desired to get credit for at CSU.

Please note that Session 1 at Macquarie = CSU spring semester; Session 2 at Macquarie - CSU fall semester.

There are a limited number or exchange places available each term.  Preference is given to students who are Colorado residents with financial need as determined by the financial aid office.  Students not selected for exchange will be admitted as study abroad.


Students who study at Macquarie can take advantage of either on-campus or off-campus accommodation options.

The Residential Colleges provide single, fully furnished study bedrooms, and full meal plans. The Colleges also provide libraries, computer labs, tutorial rooms, shops, and laundry rooms.

Macquarie also offers a variety of off-campus apartments options for students. Most are within a 10 to 30 minute walk from the campus. Each apartment holds up to four students in single or double bedrooms.
