Exchange Student Summer Program Application Instructions

Thank you for your interest in Colorado State University (CSU).  We are excited to welcome you as an exchange student for the summer.  The information below is designed to walk you through the online application process and answer some of your questions. 

General Requirements

CSU offers approximately 500 summer courses each year, which are part of the exchange partnership.  To attend CSU as an exchange student, your home institution must have a formal, bilateral student
exchange agreement with our University.  Check with the exchange coordinator at your University's International Programs Office to ask about the exchange program and request nomination.

Application Instructions and Requirements


Step 1: Be approved and nominated by your home institution.

Step 2: Complete the online application questionnaires.  Be sure that all information is entered accurately as the information will be used for your immigration documents. 

Step 3: Scan and upload the following required documents to the online application: 

 
-One Letter of Recommendation from an academic person in your field;
 
-An Official Record or Transcript of the courses/subjects studied at your home university;
 
-One Photo of sufficient quality for you to be recognized when you arrive at CSU;
 
-A Copy of Your Passport valid for at least 6 months past the end of your studies at CSU.  Color jpeg (digital photo) file or color pdf.
 
-Documentation of English language Proficiency (if native is not English); TOEFL or IELTS
 
-Proof of Finances:  To receive a DS2019 form, which is required to obtain a J-1 visa from a U.S. embassy or consulate, you must provide a financial statement verifying that you have at least $3,700 available to cover the Exchange Student Summer Program Cost, books, health insurance, and personal expenses.  
 
Documents acceptable as proof of finances include personal bank statement(s) or other financial documents (e.g. scholarship award letters, loan guarantee, etc) showing sufficient funds; Letter of support from parent with bank statement(s) showing sufficient funds; Or a combination of documents and letters of support that, when added together, show you have sufficient funds.  All documents must be in English. 
 
Instructions for Uploading a Document to your Online Application
 
Step 1: Scan and save the required documents to your computer.  Each required document should be saved in a separate pdf to upload to the appropriate questionnaire.

Step 2: Click on the Application Questionnaire that relates to the document you have saved on your desktop.  For example, if you have your bank statement as proof of Finances, click on Financial Documents - Incoming Exchange.

Step 3: Click on the folder icon in the menu.  Browse to the file you would like uploaded, select it, and then click submit.
